Operational Considerations for Designing a  FTTH Network

Presented by Barry Walton, Solutions Architect, Corning
BICSI – 1 CEC

This session will cover the importance of understanding the key operational considerations when determining the access network design, that have the potential to negatively affect customer experience, costs to maintain and  reliability.

Barry Walton CorningBarry Walton serves as Solutions Architect for Corning Optical Communications. Barry joined Corning after 37 years at Bell Aliant where he championed the deployment of FTTH, providing the strategy and planning for over 1 million homes passed. His expertise lies in business case creation, large-scale network planning, and deployment for successful access networks. Barry has served a term on the North American Fiber to the Home Council board of directors. He has delivered numerous presentations on various aspects of FTTH deployments at the annual council conference. Barry resides in New Brunswick Canada.
Corning is one of the world’s leading innovators in materials science, with a 166-year track record of life-changing inventions. Session #3

Fiber Network Design With 5G in Mind

Presented by John George, Senior Director, Solutions and Professional Services, OFS
BICSI – 1 CEC

While 5G promises to help revolutionize Smart Cities, IoT, and autonomous vehicles, it will require a dense blanket of 5G radios deployed outdoors, on buildings, and in buildings. Industry consensus is that fiber will connect most of these radios to the network. Learn how fiber networks can be designed and deployed to support FTTx, 4G, and 5G on a single fiber network platform, using new compact optical fiber cabling systems that help overcome deployment barriers.

John George has served with AT&T, Lucent Technologies and now OFS in various engineering and marketing roles. He currently directs the Solutions and Professional Services group for OFS’s optical fiber, cable, connectivity, and solutions business. John has published and presented numerous papers and articles on fiber optics and FTTH and been active in Industry standards. He has been an active member of the Fiber Broadband Association (formerly FTTH Council) from its founding year of 2001, and serving on its board of directors since 2008. John has a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech and a Master of Science in Engineering Administration from Virginia Tech, and holds 7 patents.
OFS is a world-leading designer, manufacturer and provider of optical fiber, fiber optic cable, connectivity, fiber-to-the-subscriber (FTTX) and specialty photonics products. We provide reliable, cost-effective solutions for a broad range of applications including telecommunications, medicine, industrial automation, sensing, government, aerospace and defense. Session #4

Protecting Your Business From Margin Erosion

Presented by Justin Reid, Servant Leader, Vice President, Sales Excellence, Vitruvi Software
BICSI – 1 CEC

In this session, attendees will learn how corporations are constantly being tasked to do more with less. Competitive landscapes, commoditization of services and deploying complex solutions outside of a controlled ‘lab-like’ environment have companies fighting to preserve margin levels.

Justin has spent 15 years in international consulting and business development between North America, United Kingdom, and China. Most recently, Justin led the expansion of a Deloitte Fast 50 SaaS company into Western Canada and United States markets. Creating much success in developing effective channel partnerships and direct market solution-sales initiatives, Justin’s teams secured multiple Fortune 100 Enterprise clients and disrupted the technology SaaS market. With a Masters in International Management and further post-graduate certifications from Stanford University, Justin has brought creative solutions to complex business and sales environments.
Vitruvi is a SaaS product that was built from within the telecom industry, based on the experience of passing and connecting millions of customer premises across the world. We serve both network operators and their telecom construction partners, who are dissatisfied with the inefficiencies related to designing, procuring, and deploying networks. By replacing stand-alone processes and linking all data in real-time, all project stakeholders, from designers to field-workers and project managers to executives… can now take control of their projects from within a single platform. Unlike the existing systems being replaced, Vitruvi is real-time, mobile-friendly, GIS based, and fully-integrated within our customers IT ecosystems.
