4 Benefits of Educating Your Customers About Employee Cybersecurity Training —

It is not news that cyberattacks are becoming more and more common, creating nightmarish situations for many businesses in terms of re-engineering their entire software systems and managing the PR scandals that usually follow. Cyberattacks have become commonplace, with businesses across many industries scrambling to find solutions in cybersecurity which can prevent such malicious attacks. In fact, a recent report by research from Cloudflare shared that the telecommunications industry is facing an increased threat of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, according to a new report. The research details DDoS attacks and trends for the first quarter of 2021.

In the findings, the web infrastructure and security company note that the telecommunications industry was the most targeted sector in the first 3 months of the year.

The telecom sector made a "significant" jump from 6th place in Q4 2020 to become the Number One DDoS target in Q1 2021, followed by the consumer services industry, and the security and investigations industry.

Adware, ransomware, spyware, and security breaches, can compromise a safe network despite an engineer’s best efforts of incorporating firewalls, anti-spam and content filters. Read on to learn what remedies your customers can embrace to protect their networks and employees.

Protecting Remote Workers

According to a May 2021 Forbes study, "…this is the year of big remote work shifts, and work-from-home policies across companies and industries will change massively. Twitter, Shopify and Dropbox have already announced that they will be moving to permanent work-from-home setups, and Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, announced that half of the company’s employees could work remotely for 5 to 10 years."

Without the protective umbrella of office firewalls and safe networks, your teams must understand the IT solutions they can use to protect themselves AND your company. What’s more, remote workers often use their personal computers, which puts your business at even greater risk.

Testing cyberresilience with tools such as Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) can help. Assessing the cybersecurity of a given network is good to have, along with support solutions IT like Support NJ which offer digital protection against cybersecurity threats.

Food for Thought from Our 2022 ICT Visionaries

Keeping Productivity High

When a network becomes the target of a cyberattack, employee productivity dramatically decreases as users are no longer able to access their own systems or networks. To prevent this from happening, consider training your employees in basic protocols of cybersecurity. Find ways to incentivize them to partake in cyberincident response security courses.

This investment helps your team members upskill their cybersecurity knowledge all the while contributing to their own skill set portfolio. This enhances productivity as they become more confident and comfortable with security procedures. With the right types of cybersecurity education, they are less likely to partake in risky behaviour such as clicking unknown links or download suspicious files.

Improving Trust and Confidence

When you implement cybersecurity training programs for your employees, they can trust you’re taking care of customers in the same manner. And as we know, it benefits your company when both employees AND customers trust that their data will not be harvested and sold. Having a consistent track record of protecting customer’s data is key to attracting more potential stakeholders and customers who may be interested in your offerings.

Investing in the Long Run

In the world of business, as well as in the world of technology, regulations are becoming more intricate, complex, and, sometimes, frankly hard to follow. Businesses may need to increase or improve their infrastructure to comply with said regulations. Good examples of this are regulations such as the EU-GDPR and Business Continuity Planning & Testing. These requirements make it compulsory for a business to implement cybersecurity protocols. That’s why it’s important for you to help them devise a solid cybersecurity incident response plan, with regular scenario-based testing to demonstrate true effectiveness and resilience.

Cybersecurity Incident Response Plan

According to Cisco, a cybersecurity incident response plan should include at least 5 things:

1. A list of roles and responsibilities for each member of the incident response team.

2. A business continuity plan.

3. A summarized description of needed tools, technologies, and physical resources.

4. A list of processes in critical network and data recovery, AND

5. Internal and external communications.

Today, educating your customers about investing in good IT solutions and cybersecurity training is a key step to maintaining safe and reliable networks for the success of their business and your long-term relationship.
