No, this is not an Editor’s Note about New Year’s resolutions.
It is about expectations, however. Specifically, what we expect to happen in our segment of the ICT industry in 2019.
We asked our readers that very question and chose some of the most interesting responses. (See page 24.) We also asked Nicola Palmer, Senior Vice President of Product Development & 5G Ecosystems at Verizon, a similar question. Her responses were inspiring! (See page 18.) In addition, our columnists had a thing or two to say about what they expect to happen in 2019 in their areas of expertise.
What I gleaned from all this incredible input was simple but potent: our industry is facing one of the most exciting times in its history. With the launch of 5G, the Industrial Revolution 4.0 is right around the corner.

Food for Thought from Our 2022 ICT Visionaries
April 1, 2022Nicola said it best, and it applies to the entire industry: "The beauty of how we’re architecting our network is that it’s multipurpose. Most of the strategies, efforts, and investments we make, are relevant for all our networks, whether 4G, 5G, Fiber, or IoT networks like CatM or NB IoT."
Since 5G is all about reliability and scalability across the wireline and wireless networks, it’s time to really think of them as ONE in 2019.
That’s why you need to be diligent about staying up-to-date on the latest technologies. Be passionate about working with your colleagues to do what is right amidst deadlines and deliverables. Don’t expect others to step up if you’re not going to.
The call to action? Renew your professional commitment to today AND expect good things for the future. Keep the best and leave the rest. That’s the only way our industry, our teams, and technologies, will transform together.
Because without all of you doing your best, our industry can’t deliver on future promises. Happy 2019!
