Fiber Broadband Association Unveils On-Demand Academy to Strengthen Fiber Workforce

Announced at Fiber Connect 2026, FBA Academy delivers flexible, role-based training to help broadband providers strengthen the fiber workforce and prepare for future network demands.

Key Highlights

  • FBA Academy is designed to help broadband organizations onboard new employees, upskill existing staff, and prepare future industry leaders through flexible, role-based learning.
  • The initiative addresses growing workforce demands driven by AI, quantum computing, data centers, and expanding fiber broadband infrastructure needs.
  • FBA Academy builds on existing FBA workforce initiatives, including OpTIC Path®, with a full platform launch planned for Q3 2026.

At Fiber Connect 2026, the Fiber Broadband Association (FBA) unveiled FBA Academy, a new on-demand workforce training platform created to expand access to advanced broadband education and support the growing demand for skilled fiber professionals. The full platform launch is scheduled for Q3 2026.

Developed by industry experts, FBA Academy is designed to help broadband organizations recruit, train, and retain talent across the fiber ecosystem. The program provides scalable, role-based learning opportunities for everyone from frontline technicians and field personnel to supervisors, managers, and executive leaders.

As demand for high-capacity connectivity accelerates—driven by AI, quantum computing, hyperscale data centers, and other emerging technologies—the need for a highly skilled workforce continues to intensify. FBA Academy aims to address that challenge through flexible, modular training designed to support both onboarding and ongoing professional development.

The platform will offer practical, on-demand education focused on fiber technologies, workforce readiness, and leadership development. According to the Association, the Academy is intended to help organizations align talent development strategies with long-term business growth and infrastructure expansion.

“Scaling the fiber workforce with new technicians continues to be a top priority, but with rapid innovation, education and new entrants exploring a range of career paths,” said Deborah Kish, Vice President of Research and Workforce Development at the Fiber Broadband Association.

Kish continues, “By lowering barriers to entry and standardizing access to credible training, FBA Academy strengthens the industry’s ability to recruit, train, and retain the workforce needed to keep our industry well-prepared.”

FBA Academy will feature:

  • Short-form, practical courses (30-60 minutes) focused on real-world fiber skills.
  • Content developed by FBA member experts for industry professionals.
  • On-demand access for continuous, year-round learning.
  • Career pathways, day-in-the-life simulations, and applications in 5G, telehealth, and smart cities.
  • Scalable pathways designed to expand into certifications over time.
  • Role-based tracks for customer support, engineering, and field operations.

The initiative builds on FBA’s existing workforce development efforts, including OpTIC Path®, and reflects the Association’s broader commitment to strengthening the long-term sustainability of the fiber workforce.

FBA Academy is expected to play a key role in preparing the industry for continued broadband expansion while supporting innovation, operational resilience, and customer service excellence across the fiber sector.
