Corning's Evolv® FRECAP® Dome Closure
The Evolv® FRECAP® closure is Corning’s NAFTA-specific gel sealed, dome-based fiber optic closure designed to reduce installation risk and reentry time for broadband service providers, housing fiber splices and optical devices for outside plant environments. The closure features eight independently sealed gel cable entry segments with an intuitive lever-based sealing mechanism, enabling cable adds or changes without disturbing existing sealed ports. An integrated gel dome seal eliminates separate O-ring handling, while industry standard tray compatibility supports scalable, high density splicing in outside plant networks.
North American service providers require closures that support high fiber counts, diverse cable diameters, and frequent network expansion, while minimizing the risk of water ingress and service disruption during reentry. Traditional dome closures often rely on shared sealing systems or separate O-rings that can be installed incorrectly, damaged, or disturb existing cables when reentering. These challenges increase labor time, rework, and operational risk during network growth.
Evolv® FRECAP® helps NAFTA operators meet build and expansion objectives by:
- Reducing reentry risk through independently sealed cable ports—existing cables remain sealed while new cables are added.
- Lowering operational expense by simplifying cable adds and changes with a lever-based sealing mechanism designed for repeatable field use.
- Improving field efficiency by eliminating separate dome O-ring handling and associated failure modes.
- Supporting scalable network growth with high splice capacity in a compact form factor compatible with industry standard trays.
- Up to 50% faster reentry and future cable adds, directly targeting reduced truck rolls and technician time.
