Cradlepoint Brings AI Functionality to 5G for Business

Jan. 30, 2024
The Ericsson-owned company introduced a suite of AI features for enterprise 5G.

Cradlepoint, part of Ericsson, who offers cloud-based wireless edge-network equipment this week announced new AI functionality for 5G networks. According to the company, they are the first enterprise 5G router vendor to adopt an AI model uniquely focused on cellular networking.

AI capabilities include a dashboard with an AI model that identifies areas of performance degradation, isolates the cause of the issue, and pinpoints the affected sites, users, and applications, an AI-based assistant to help users with network operation queries, and AI-powered flow-level visibility for traffic analysis and forensics, among other things.

“As Cradlepoint continues to prioritize innovation, our AI strategy exemplifies our commitment to accelerating the deployment of 5G for businesses by enhancing the visibility, manageability, and performance of the cellular network,” said Donna Johnson, CMO at Cradlepoint. “We are not only making 5G networks smarter, simpler, and more secure for our customers’ IT departments. We are also allowing our customers’ security organizations to take control over how their employees leverage generative AI tools, protecting them from misuse that could lead to a damaging data leak or a malware infection.”

Cradlepoint was acquired in 2020 by Ericsson, who was seeking to capture market share in the 5G enterprise space.

The company is based in Boise, Idaho and offers Wireless WAN, offering advanced 4G and 5G routers and adapters controlled through Cradlepoint NetCloud™ for enterprise and public sector applications.
