ISE Editor Hayden Beeson caught up with Steve Harris, vice president of sales and marketing at UCL Swift, on the show floor at Fiber Connect 2026.

Harris explained how the company designs its splicing and connectivity solutions around long-term network reliability. According to Harris, UCL Swift’s fusion-splicing approach brings factory-level performance characteristics into the field while providing the durability needed to support networks for decades. Because UCL Swift manufactures the broader connectivity ecosystem, he added, its components are engineered to work together across the installation.

The conversation also covered the fiber industry’s workforce gap. Harris highlighted UCL Swift’s KF4A fusion splicer, which combines seven tools in one unit and uses a numbered process to guide technicians through a splice. The simplified workflow is intended to help contractors train new technicians and transition workers into fiber installation more quickly.
